My Very First Japan depicts the most iconic mountain of Japan, Mount Fuji, set against a backdrop of delicate, pink cherry blossoms. My travels often inspire and provide new ideas for my art, and my first trip to Japan, though brief, left a lasting impression. In just a week, I experienced the enchanting pink aura that envelops the country. I glimpsed Mount Fuji from the train window on our way to Kyoto, and its cloudless peak felt like a promising sign.

The artwork is rendered on grey, thick paper using a variety of coloured markers. The piece captures the serene beauty of Japan’s landscape and the vibrant, fleeting moments of my unforgettable journey. /2023
